Digital Native. Educator. Librarian.
Total Nerd.
Work
Professionally, my career has mainly focused on technology. I have 15 years of experience in the digital marketing industry, first as a web and Flash programmer in Cape Town, South Africa in the early 2000s to finally working as the Technical Director for the Berlin branch of an international Swedish multidisciplinary agency. During this time, I worked with small local clients through to large multinational firms. My work has been awarded around the globe. From here, I adventured into the healthcare medtech startup sector in the UK, working for a London-based firm specialising in the development of an artificially intelligent cancer screening service.
Deciding to focus on my family and my children, I spent some time as a stay-at-home dad, and then opted to move into education, becoming a certified Secondary School teacher in English Language Arts. Now, I work as the Whole School Librarian for an international school in South Korea.
Education
Above all else I am an auto-didact and firmly believe in the value of knowledge sought vs knowledge taught. Even so, I have a Bachelor of Arts in English and Philosophy from the University of Cape Town, a teaching certification from Moreland University in the US and librarian qualifications from Queen's University in Canada. Most of the knowledge I have I've learnt online, through research, practice and project deliveries. It is the very nature of the digital industry I come from to allow us this luxury.
Personal
I am a diverse and colourful individual. I appreciate many things and my hobbies and interests span a wide area. I have travelled to 30 odd countries and lived in a few. I like to remain curious and excited by life and by adventure and I don't back down from change or challenge.
